Ecclesiastical history is of great importance to Orthodox Christians. This is mainly due to the fact that, unlike other Christian denominations, Orthodox Christianity can trace back its historical existence and apostolic succession to the very Church founded in Jerusalem on the day of Holy Pentecost. Orthodoxy is also the only Christian tradition that resembles the early Church in terms of faith and ritual, more than any other. This is yet another attribute unique to a Church with real, documented history dating to apostolic times. |
