The Creed of the Orthodox Church

With scriptural references supporting each article of the faith.
An excellent synopsis of the fundamental beliefs of the Orthodox Church.

The Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed in its Original Form

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible; And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only-begotten, begotten of the Father before all ages; Light of Light, true God of true God; begotten, not made; being of one essence with the Father; by Whom all things were made; Who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from the Heavens, and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man; And was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, suffered and was buried; And arose on the third day according to the Scriptures; And ascended into the Heavens, and sitteth at the right hand of the Father; And shall come again, with glory, to judge both the living and the dead; Whose Kingdom shall have no end; And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of life; Who proceedeth from the Father; Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; Who spake by the Prophets; In One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the remission of sins. I look for the resurrection of the dead, And the life of the age to come. Amen.

Each Article of the Faith Backed by Scriptural References

I believe in one God [Hear O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord (Deuteronomy 6:4)] the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible; [But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him (1 Corinthians 8:6)]

And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, [And one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him (1 Corinthians 8:6)] the Son of God, the Only-begotten, [For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son (John 3:16)] begotten of the Father before all ages; [And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was (John 17:5)] Light of Light, [That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world (John 1:9)] true God of true God; [And we know that the Son of God is come and hath given us an understanding, that we may know Him that is true; and we are in Him that is true; even His Son Jesus Christ. That is the true God, and eternal life (1 John 5:20)] begotten, not made; [the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee (Psalm 2:7) ]  being of one essence with the Father; [I and my Father are one (John 10:30) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1) For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily (Colossians 2:9)] by Whom all things were made; [All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made (John 1:3)]

Who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from the Heavens, [And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven (John 3:13)] and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary [The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God (Luke 1:35)] and became man; [And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh (1 Timothy 3:16) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us (John 1:14)]

And was crucified for us [And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him (Luke 23:33)] under Pontius Pilate [And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required (Luke 23:24)], suffered [Christ also suffered for us (1 Peter 2:21) Christ died for our sins (1 Corinthians 15:3)] and was buried; And arose on the third day according to the Scriptures; [And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:4)]

And ascended into the Heavens, and sitteth at the right hand of the Father; [So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God (Mark 16:19)] And shall come again, with glory, [and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory (Matthew 24:30)] to judge both the living and the dead; [the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearance (2 Timothy 2:4:1)] Whose Kingdom shall have no end; [and of his kingdom there shall be no end (Luke 1:33)]

And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of life; [Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17)] Who proceedeth from the Father; [the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father (John 15:26)] Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; [The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all (2 Corinthians 13:14) in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost (Matthew 28:19) For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one (1 John 5:7)] Who spake by the Prophets; [I shall pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy (Joel 2:28)]

In One, [for ye are all one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:28)] Holy, [for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are (1 Corinthians 3:17)] Catholic [i.e., "universal," - Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all and in all (Colossians 3:11)] and Apostolic [And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets (Ephesians 2:20)] Church. [and upon this rock I will build my Church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it (Matthew 16:18)] I confess one baptism [One Lord, one faith, one baptism (Ephesians 4:5)] for the remission of sins. [that repentence and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations (Luke 24:47)] I look for the resurrection of the dead, [And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust (Acts 24:15)] And the life of the age to come. [That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:7)] Amen.
